Excursion to the Gargano region

This pages are intended to be used by students during a scientific excursion to the Gargano region in southern Italy. The first excursion took place in 2023. It was organised by the University of Hohenheim, the University of Mainz and the University of Naples. Other than "normal" excursions, the students of all three universities have carried out scientific experiments to get information about the reproductive system of Ophrys and its pollinators. Since the reproductive system of Ophrys is sexually deceptive, the pollinator bees need other plants to get their food and energy. Therefore we recorded the floristic composition around the Ophrys individuals, within small plots and around the plots.

For the next excursions we want to provide information about plant species, how they look like and where they do occur.

Regional scope: Gargano Region in southern Italy, especially the area around Marina di Lesina.

Temporal scope: two weeks in March. This means that we will not present the complete flora of this region, but instead only the plants which ideally are flowering during this period.
