Description-internal
Common trees in montane second growth forests; vegetatively unique in South- and Middle-America by the doubly toothed leaf margin (with teeth over secondary vein endings slightly larger). Characterized by the close together straight ascending secondary veins with rigidly parallel tertiary veins perpendicular to the secondaries. Perhaps only one species in South America: Alnus acuminata
